Opiskelija: Katosiko vanha kurssi Moodlesta? Haluatko päästä Moodle-materiaaleihin kurssin päättymisen jälkeen?

TUNI Moodlessa kytkettiin päälle automaattinen kurssialueiden poisto tammikuun alussa: Kun opintojakson toteutuskerran (kurssin) päättymisestä on kulunut yli vuosi, Moodle-kurssialue piilotetaan opiskelijoilta automaattisesti.

Älä ota itse yhteyttä IT Helpdeskiin, koska Moodle-tuki palauttaa kurssialueita roskakorista ainoastaan opettajan pyynnöstä.

Student: Did the old course disappear from Moodle? Do you want to access Moodle materials after the course has ended?

At the beginning of January, TUNI Moodle switched on automatic course deletion: when more than a year has passed since the end of a course, the Moodle course is automatically hidden from students. If you wish to access the Moodle pages and materials of a course after a longer period of time, i.e. even after more than a year, please discuss the matter with the teacher. The teacher decides on a course-by-course basis how long the Moodle course will be open to students and can prevent the automatic hiding and deletion of his/her course.

TUNI Moodle contains thousands of outdated courses that have not been used for a long time and have not been removed from Moodle by the teachers themselves. Courses with almost the same name cause confusion for both students and teachers, unnecessary courses overload Moodle servers and have student assignment submissions and other student works that should be deleted according to the University and TAMK's Information Management Plans 6-12 months after the final assessments are made. Due to these reasons, the automatic deletion of Moodle courses was introduced from the beginning of 2023.

Teachers decide independently how long each Moodle course will be open to students: some teachers close their course immediately after the last exam and final assessments, others leave their courses open intentionally or unnoticed. The latter group is affected by Moodle's new deletion automation from the student's point of view.

To maintain access to the Moodle content of a course after it has ended, please follow these steps:

  • Ongoing course: discuss and agree with the teacher how long you will have access to the Moodle pages. The teacher will be able to edit the end date of the Moodle course and thus postpone the automatic deletion to a later date.
  • The course pages have already disappeared from Moodle: contact the teacher and ask him/her to either reopen the course to students for an agreed period of time, to restore the course from the Moodle trashbin (less than one month from automatic deletion) or to request the restoration of the course from the IT Helpdesk (1-12 months from automatic deletion). Please do not contact the IT Helpdesk yourself, as Moodle support will only restore courses from the trashbin at the teacher's request.

Opettaja: Tarkista, onko vanhoja mutta tarpeellisia Moodle-kurssialueitasi siirretty roskakoriin

Ingress: Tammikuun alussa TUNI Moodlessa kytkettiin päälle automaattinen poistaminen kurssialueille, joiden päättymispäivämäärästä on yli vuosi.

Siirrä > Siirrä aina Lajiteltu-/Tärkeät-kansioon (Always Move to Focused).

  • Do not reply to this email  (via TUNI Moodle) <noreply-tuni@mmg.fi>

Otsikkona joku näistä:

  • TUNI Moodle: Kurssisi on siirretty roskakoriin
  • TUNI Moodle: Kurssisi on poistettu
  • Kurssisi on siirretty Poistettavien kurssien kategoriaan

Poistettu kurssin sisältö on palautettavissa 7 päivän ajan kurssin omasta roskakorista.

Teacher: check if your old but necessary Moodle courses have been moved to the trashbin

At the beginning of January, TUNI Moodle switched on automatic deletion for courses that are more than a year past their expiry date. Moodle has sent email messages to the teachers of the trashed courses: the first message when the course area was moved to the trash and the second message a month later when the teacher is no longer able to retrieve the course from the trash. Check whether you have received such emails about courses that you or your students still need. Note that these messages may not appear in your important emails if your Outlook email has the Focused Inbox feature enabled.

TUNI Moodle contains thousands of outdated courses that have not been removed from Moodle by the teachers themselves. Courses with almost the same name cause confusion for both students and teachers, unnecessary courses overload Moodle servers and have student assignment submissions and other student works that should be removed according to the University and TAMK's Information Management Plans 6-12 months after the final assessments are made. Due to these reasons, automatic course deletion was introduced from the beginning of 2023 onwards, in stages by course category and end date.

If you have courses in TUNI Moodle that ended more than a year ago, you may have received messages about their transfer to the trashbin. The deletion process has not yet targeted all courses with an end date more than a year ago. Your Outlook email may have a Focused Inbox (default), which may cause Outlook to redirect emails sent by Moodle to the Other view. If you wish, you can force all new Moodle emails to be important by selecting a Moodle message in the Other view and choosing

Move > Always Move to Focused.

If you suspect that some course that you need and want to save has been moved to the trashbin, you can search for notification messages in your email using the following sender and subject information:

Sender:

  • Älä vastaa tähän sähköpostiin  (TUNI Moodle) <noreply-tuni@mmg.fi>
  • Do not reply to this email  (via TUNI Moodle) <noreply-tuni@mmg.fi>

Subject one of these:

  • TUNI Moodle: Your course has been moved to trashbin and will be deleted
  • TUNI Moodle: Your course has been deleted
  • Your course has been moved to archive category
  • Your course has been moved to delete category

Do this if your old course is still needed in the future:

  • If it is less than a month since the course was moved to the trashbin: find the course in Moodle and restore it from the trashbin. Remember to edit the end date in the course settings.
  • If it's been more than a month since the course was moved to the trashbin and you received a "course deleted" message: contact the IT Helpdesk, tell them the name of the course and ask them to restore it from the trashbin.
  • The course has not yet been moved to the trashbin: if necessary, edit the end date in the course settings by 1-2 years ahead, or disable the end date completely if you know you will need the course for years ahead (master/template course from which you will copy the new courses). Do not set the course end date to the 2030s or later!

If you want to delete the student submissions but save the Moodle course content and assignments, first duplicate the assignment activity (Turn editing on > activity Edit menu > Duplicate) and then delete the original assignment activity. Note that deleting the activity will also delete the student submission and grading data from the Moodle grading book, so do this at the earliest 6 months after the final assessment. Deleted course content can be restored for 7 days in the course's own Recycle bin.
