On 21.2.2022, the IT Services will activate a function that will automatically delete TUNI Moodle accounts that have not been used to log in to Moodle in the last two years. In addition to the user profile, the person's own assignment submissions and grading data will also be deleted from Moodle courses. However, deleting a Moodle account does not remove the Moodle courses or their content: the learning materials and activities added by the deleted teacher accout remain in the Moodle courses to which they have been added.

The automatic deletion of accounts applies to all Moodle users: TUNI users, HAKA users from other universities and owners of special Moodle accounts. The last login check and the deletion of inactive user accounts will be performed daily from 21 February onwards. The deletion rule also applies to Moodle accounts created more than two years ago but which have not been used to log in to TUNI Moodle.

Reasons for deleting Moodle user data:

  • The Tampere Universities community is not entitled to retain personal data permanently without a justified reason. According to TAU's and TAMK's information management plans, the outputs of students' studies should be kept for 6-12 months after the assessment, not longer.
  • The TUNI email address has a two-year cooling-off period after the TUNI account has been closed. After that, the same email address can be assigned to a new person. Similar recycling of e-mail addresses is also done in other organisations. Two different Moodle accounts with the same email address would cause both technical and privacy issues.
