This course will present the basic principles of understanding and applying data analytics (mainly exploratory data analysis) and time series forecasting methods. Additionally, an overview of the state-of-the art in forecasting techniques will be presented along with the contribution of gamification in this field. The aim of the course is to teach basic statistics, the basic steps of the forecasting methodology (Makridakis et al. 2008), the forecasting time series models, and the evaluation of the forecasting methods. Additionally, participants will be able to basically use the statistical programming language R in order to analyze, visualize their data and produce forecasts with basic forecasting models and participate in a gamified educational application relevant to the topic.
