The 2010s have witnessed turbulent changes in Arab Mediterranean countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The notion of youth garnered high levels of interest, aspirations and concerns with regard to young people’s roles in social change.  The students are familiarised with the main social, political, economic and cultural trends affecting the lives of young people in the region today. They will have a good grasp of the main social cleavages that differentiate and affect youth lives in local settings.

The course consists of country-specific lectures, course literature, documentary films, and individual and group assignments. It is open to students from all social science disciplines, including youth research, anthropology and sociology. The language of instruction is English.
