It is anticipated that quantum computers would defeat current public-key cryptography using Shor’s algorithm. Hence, post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms, also known as quantum-resistant algorithms or simply "modern cryptography" will replace the old techniques. Over the past two decades, researchers have developed a wide range of algorithms that are anticipated to be quantum-resistant. Many standards organisations are standardising these PQC algorithms.
